Project Highlight
Soil Preperation and Grass Seeding

This is one of our favorite projects – a lawn establishment around a pond.
During this project, we first removed the existing turf. Next, we used our soil conditioner and rockhound attachment on our skidloader to pulverize the soil, and remove small rocks, sticks, and debris, to revitalize the soil.

After the customer and our team were happy with the dirt-work, we proceeded to seed the seedbed with hydroseed.

Finally, to protect our work, we installed filter socks to help with erosion control.

Basics on Watering Sod

Learn what to expect when enlisting in our watering service, and how it will benefit your new sod.

We recommend enrolling in our four-week watering program.

Commercial Lawn Irrigation recommends watering of new sod until it’s past it’s rooting and establishment period. In their article, “Watering New Sod: Your Complete Guide“, they elaborate on the benefits of following a rigorous watering schedule on your lawn’s health.

We can either set up sprinklers or irrigation that is sourced from your home’s water, or we can bring in our own water.

Our watering equipment is capable of carrying large volumes of water, and spraying it directly from the road in most applications.

Basics on Watering Grass Seed

Lawns can be difficult to establish from grass seed – unless you hire us!

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach department has many good resources and guides that we use to help in our watering strategies.

For example, “How should I water a newly seeded yard?”

For newly seeded lawns, we base our decisions off of a mix of resources, experience, and varying conditions.

For most new lawns, we recommend enrolling in our 4-week watering service.

One of the resources that we use to help govern this program is Iowa Dot‘s State Wide Urban Design and Specifications  – SUDAS. In Section 9010, “Seeding”, the state reccomends that grass seed is watered for a minimum of 21 days.
